They may not be who you think of when you imagine mass transit.

But Jack Jones, Lily Tomlin, Carol Channing, Mariah Hanson, Harold Matzner and especially Bella Da Ball are who you think of when someone mentions Palm Springs.

These local celebs and others will pack the BUZZ on Friday, Dec. 19 for the new downtown trolly’s inaugural ride at 5 p.m. (The first 30 riders will receive a free BUZZ T-shirt.)

The new free trolley service is promised to be fast — hitting one of its 30 stops every 15 minutes — and will operate 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday to Sunday.

“Palm Springs is a dynamic, thriving place — the premiere city in the Coachella Valley — and a buzzing city like ours (no pun intended) deserves the things any city expects,” Mayor Steve Pougnet boasted via a press release. “And so as our city celebrates a historic renaissance as one of the hippest, most happening resort destinations in Southern California and beyond — we bring you the BUZZ.”
